Taxation, Financing, and Contracts: What it Takes to Get Energy Storage Projects Off the Ground

Fabio Lima is the executive director of ABSAE and a lawyer focused on taxation, power sector regulation, and government relations. He has over 10 years of experience in legislative and regulatory strategy.

Ana Martinez is Global Associate Tax Director at Recurrent Energy, where she has been part of the global tax leadership team for over five years. A Brazilian-qualified lawyer with a degree in Accounting, she holds a postgraduate degree in International Tax Law. With 17 years of professional experience, Ana specializes in international taxation, M&A, cross-border transactions, corporate restructurings and transfer pricing. Throughout her career, she has supported the implementation of more than 4 GW of solar projects across Latin America. She also serves as Vice Coordinator of ABSOLAR's Tax Committee, contributing to discussions on tax policy and the development of Brazil's renewable energy sector.

Felipe Guimarães is Senior Consultant in Investment Analysis at CELA (Clean Energy Latin America), a financial advisory firm focused on energy transition and decarbonization. With 10 years of experience in renewable energy finance, he leads projects on financial modeling, valuation, and feasibility analysis for storage, solar, wind, distributed generation, green hydrogen, and e-fuels projects. Before joining CELA, he worked at EDP Brasil, Mori Energia Solar, ODATA, and Grupo Petrópolis. Felipe holds a degree in Energy Engineering from UFABC, a specialization in Green Hydrogen Project Development and Economics from RENAC, and is a CFA Level III candidate.

Eduardo Tobias is a Managing Partner at Watt Capital. He is a specialist in project investment analysis, project financing, and on the acquisition and sale of renewable energy projects and assets in Brazil. He is also a visiting Professor at FGV, teaching for its Power Sector Executive Program, and author of the book 'Investment Analysis in Utility Scale PV Projects' (2021). He has a BSc. in Business Administration from FGV-EAESP and a Professional Master in Bioenergy from FGV-EESP.

Jovanio Santos is an electrical engineer with a master's degree in Energy Markets and Regulation from USP and a Ph.D. in progress in the same field, complemented by MBAs in Project Management, the Electric Power Sector, and Energy Efficiency, as well as an LLM in Energy Law. Throughout his career, he has contributed to strategic initiatives across the sector's entire value chain, working on projects aimed at modernizing, expanding, and transforming the sector. He has also led and participated in projects related to privatizations, generation and transmission auctions, self-generation of energy, R&D, corporate strategic planning, and technical support in disputes and litigation in the energy market. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE, a member of CIGRE Brazil, an advisor to the Brazilian Association for Green Hydrogen and Ammonia (ABHAV), and the author of international scientific articles. He also serves as a professor in graduate and MBA programs in the field of energy, contributing to the training of professionals and to the technical and institutional discourse within the sector.
