São Paulo, 24 April 2025: More than 5,600 people attended the trade show. Conference discussions prompted important reflections on the future of solar energy and other aspects of the energy transition.
Intersolar Summit Brasil Nordeste, one of the region’s most comprehensive events covering solar generation and related topics, concluded its fifth edition in Fortaleza with record attendance: over 5,600 visitors explored the event’s 90 exhibitors. This milestone confirms the event’s established position in the calendar of Ceará and the Brazilian Northeast. The second day of the conference examined green hydrogen, electrical energy storage, transmission challenges for large loads, and e-mobility. Organised by Aranda Eventos & Congressos in collaboration with Germany’s Solar Promotion International, the Summit highlights strategic discussions that are crucial for the sector’s future.
Solar Promotion International’s CEO Florian Wessendorf celebrated the event’s success: “Our fifth edition achieved record attendance, demonstrating both the event’s consolidation and the credibility it has gained among renewable energy and energy transition leaders. Furthermore, the conference facilitated high-level discussions uniting key sector representatives, while the workshops proved popular in training professionals on major market trends.”
The panel “Green Hydrogen: The Northeast’s New Energy Frontier” opened the day’s discussions. Jurandir Picanço, an energy consultant for the Federation of Industries of the State of Ceará (FIEC), said that earlier projections about the potential of green hydrogen have been revised downwards, citing barriers including production costs, technology and infrastructure. Camila Ramos, CEO and Founder of CELA, explained that the market still faces challenges for final investment decisions, particularly the need for committed buyers to secure project financing. She acknowledged Ceará’s efforts to attract investment through incentives. Gustavo Silva, Operations Director at Qair Brasil, presented the investor perspective, highlighting obstacles like supply chain bottlenecks, geopolitical barriers and Brazil’s political uncertainties. Concluding the panel, Brígida Miola, Executive Secretary of Industry at SDE, outlined initiatives by the Ceará Green Hydrogen Hub to enable local production, including port infrastructure, transmission lines and water reuse systems.
The second discussion addressed “Electric Energy Storage in the Northeast: An Overview”. Chaired by Markus Vlasits, president of the Brazilian Energy Storage Association (ABSAE), who advocated for national storage policies, the panel identified storage as a viable solution to optimise solar and wind generation capacity. Jonas Becker Paiva, Director of Colibri Capital, presented a sector overview, citing a recent Bloomberg report showing a 40% global reduction in storage system costs, with projections suggesting a further 34% decrease by 2030. Maurício Gonçalves, CEO of 3E Soluções, emphasised isolated systems as viable solutions for areas with electricity access challenges. Adalberto Moreira, Commercial Manager at Baterias Moura, discussed the storage business environment, arguing that storage should be viewed not as competition for traditional energy sources but as a strategic ally.
The day’s third panel examined “Electrical System Perspectives and Transmission Challenges for Large Loads”. Joaquim Rolim, FIEC’s Sustainable Development Manager, outlined recent transformations in Brazil’s electricity sector through renewable integration and their impact on issues such as load management. Marcos Júnior Soares de Lima, Enel’s Senior Grid Planning Specialist, addressed challenges posed by new large-load connections for the work plans of distributors. Eduardo Rego, O&M Director at Voltalia Energia do Brasil, shared the operational experiences of generation companies within Brazil’s current energy landscape.
The final panel, “E-mobility: Standardisation and Technology”, chaired by move CEO Cesare Quinteiro, covered standards, technology, markets and the perspective of charging point operators. Quinteiro noted Brazil’s exponential e-mobility growth, a trend expected to continue. Daniel Carvalho, CEO of DCC Energy, talked about market developments in recent years, particularly in the Northeast, which grew 9.4-fold between 2022 and 2024, creating opportunities in charging infrastructure. Rafael Souza, Director of Eletricarr, correlated rising vehicle sales with charging point availability, noting this expansion occurs not only in large cities but in towns as well. He emphasised the potential of solar generation to power charging networks.
The event also featured a public talk, “Grid Zero and Protection Systems”, delivered by Sinergia Consultoria’s electrical engineer Vinícius Ayrão. Alongside discussions, workshops attracted dedicated attendees, covering: “MicroPV Maintenance Business Models” with Vinícius Ayrão; “Smart Systems for Energy Transition” led by Camila Gehrke and Flávio da Silva; and “Demand Management for Condominiums” presented by Rafael Cunha and João Cunha.
